Several Methods for Reducing the Dose of Cone Beam CT

  • Kilovoltage cone beam CT has been widely used in radiotherapy, surgical operation and dental diagnosis. However, frequent use of kilovoltage cone beam CT will deliver extra radiation damage to patients, even doctors. Associated statistical results show that most cancers can be induced by X-ray radiation. Meanwhile children and women are especially sensitive to radiation. So reasonable use of cone beam CT and limiting the radiation dose of cone beam CT are very important to reduce the risk of disease induced by radiation. This paper summarizes some techniques of reducing radiation dose of cone beam CT, including lower current, local scan, pulse scan, short scan and view reduced scan. Dose reduction may cause noise or artifacts in image domain. To specific issue, corresponding correcting methods are also proposed in this paper.
