X-ray and CT Features of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia

  • Purpose:We make a summing up of the X-ray and CT findings of patients infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV). Materials and methods:A total of 1028 patients with fever in fever clinic of our hospital from January 21, 2020 to February 25, 2020 were done X-ray examination. Among them, 18 cases were confirmed to be 2019-nCoV by nucleic acid detection, 6 patients underwent CT examination on the same day, and 9 patients underwent imaging review within 1 week. Result:Among the 18 patients confirmed with 2019-nCoV, 4 patients X ray presented with increase of lung markings, 14 patients X ray presented with single or multiple lung lesions. The preferred location of lung lesion was the lower lobe. 9 patients presented with unilateral lesions in the lower lobe of the lung, 3 patients showed bilateral lesions in the lower lobe of the lung, and the other 2 patients presented with bilateral lesions in the upper and lower lobe of the lung. Six patients underwent CT examination on the same day and ground glass opacities were found in 3 cases that X-ray chest film did not show before. The CT findings of 1 case were normal. In 2 cases, CT showed more lesions than X-ray. The predominant pattern of CT findings of patients with 2019-nCoV infections include bilateral ground-glass opacities of the subpleural lung, air bronchograms and interlobular septal thickening. X-ray films were reviewed in 6 patients within 1 week, and CT was reexamined in 3 patients, among which 1 patient showed ground glass shadow absorption on CT, 8 patients showed lesion progression than before with double lower lobes of lung involved. Conclusion:The chest X-ray and CT manifestations are of certain characteristics in 2019-nCoV, combined with the clinical history and laboratory examination the diagnosis may be done.
